Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday claimed that the people of Delhi have rejected Arvind Kejriwal’s “bad model” of governance and have chosen Prime Minister Modi’s “good governance” model, as the BJP crossed the majority mark in early election trends.
Speaking to ANI, Sachdeva emphasized that the election was a clear contest between good and bad governance. He pointed to the issues plaguing Delhi, such as contaminated water, broken roads, poor sanitation, and pollution in the Yamuna River, attributing these problems to Kejriwal’s governance. “The people of Delhi have rejected this model,” he said. “On the other hand, Modi Ji’s model of governance is one that the entire nation respects. People have chosen good governance.”
Sachdeva also took aim at AAP’s top leaders, such as Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Atishi, and Saurabh Bharadwaj, who were trailing in the early trends. He accused them of betraying the public and claimed that they would lose because of their alleged corruption. “Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Atishi—these are the faces of corruption. The people will not forgive them,” he stated.
As per the early trends from the Election Commission, the BJP has crossed the majority mark in the Delhi Assembly elections. The BJP is leading in 45 seats, while AAP is ahead in 25 seats. The majority mark required to form the government in the 70-member Assembly is 36 seats.
BJP’s Parvesh Verma is currently leading the New Delhi Assembly seat, holding a 225-vote margin over AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. AAP Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj is trailing behind BJP’s Shikha Roy in Greater Kailash by a margin of 4,440 votes, while Delhi Chief Minister Atishi is behind BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji by 2,800 votes.
Polling for the Delhi Assembly elections was held on February 5, with a voter turnout of 60.54%. The results, based on early trends, suggest a strong performance for the BJP in the national capital.
