The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Delhi Police were stationed at New Delhi Railway Station on Monday to handle crowd control following a stampede that tragically claimed the lives of 18 people and left several others injured.

As part of the response, the CRPF will work in collaboration with the Delhi Police to provide additional assistance. Senior CRPF officers are currently overseeing the situation at the station to ensure safety and prevent further incidents.

The stampede occurred after a confusion at the station, according to Delhi Police. The chaos was triggered by an announcement regarding two trains with similar names starting with “Prayagraj.” The announcement of the arrival of the Prayagraj Special at Platform 16 caused confusion, as the Prayagraj Express was already stationed at Platform 14.

BJP MP Dinesh Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of life, urging the opposition not to exploit the incident for political gain. Speaking to ANI, Sharma said, “This is a very sad incident. The government is concerned and both the railway department and central authorities have been actively involved in relief efforts. The focus should be on providing assistance, not on seeking political advantages.”

Sharma further criticized opposition leaders for attempting to gain political mileage from the tragedy. “It’s unfortunate that the opposition looks for political benefits in tragic events like this. Leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and others should avoid politicizing incidents like these. We should all stand united and support the affected families.”

In response to the stampede, Indian Railways has announced compensation for the victims: Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for those with serious injuries, and Rs 1 lakh for those with minor injuries.
