The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) staged a protest outside the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Hyderabad on Thursday, condemning the agency’s chargesheet against Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and others in connection with the National Herald case.
Top Telangana ministers and Congress leaders voiced their outrage, accusing the BJP-led central government of orchestrating a politically motivated attack to tarnish the Gandhi family’s image ahead of upcoming elections.
Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar told ANI, “Rahul Gandhi is emerging as a powerful young leader, and the BJP sees that as a threat. This entire case is nothing but a conspiracy to damage his image. The Gandhi family has served this nation with integrity. Despite being in power for years, they never engaged in fraud. Unlike the BJP, which is handing over the country’s wealth to corporates like Adani and Ambani.”
Minister Jupally Krishna Rao echoed similar sentiments, asserting that the BJP is attempting to derail Congress’s momentum ahead of the 2029 general elections.
“The BJP knows that Congress is poised to return to power in 2029. To stop this, they are misusing investigative agencies like the ED to spread false allegations against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi,” he said.
Rao also paid tribute to the Gandhi family’s legacy, saying, “Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for the country. Sonia and Rahul Gandhi could have chosen the Prime Minister’s chair, but they put the nation first by supporting Dr. Manmohan Singh.”
The protest comes after the ED filed a prosecution complaint in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court earlier this week, naming key Congress leaders in the National Herald case. Congress has strongly denounced the chargesheet, labeling it as a “politically motivated move aimed at silencing opposition.”
