Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Thursday submitted an adjournment notice in the Lok Sabha, seeking a discussion on the deportation of over 100 Indian nationals by the United States government. Tagore expressed his shock over the recent deportations of Indian citizens, who were identified as illegal immigrants, calling the incident a national shock.

In his notice, Tagore said, “This process not only shows a complete disregard for human rights but also raises serious diplomatic concerns. The Indian government has remained largely silent, with minimal intervention, despite these actions.”

He further questioned why the Indian government had not condemned the inhumane treatment of its citizens during the deportation process. “What actions is the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) taking to ensure the protection of Indian nationals abroad? Why was the Indian government not consulted regarding the use of military aircraft for the deportation? What measures are being taken to guarantee the safety and dignity of those deported?” Tagore asked.

The Congress MP demanded that the Minister of External Affairs clarify the government’s position on the matter and explain the steps being taken in response.

The deported individuals, who were reportedly in the US illegally, arrived in Amritsar, Punjab, on a US Air Force plane on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, a US Embassy spokesperson stated that, while specific details could not be disclosed, the United States was rigorously enforcing its immigration laws. The spokesperson added that the actions were meant to send a “clear message” that illegal migration was not worth the risk. “The United States is tightening its immigration laws and removing illegal migrants. These actions send a clear message: illegal migration is not worth the risk,” the spokesperson said.
