Ahead of the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash in the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai, Congress leader Rashid Alvi expressed strong disapproval of the match, questioning why the BJP-led government allowed India to play against Pakistan, whom he referred to as “our enemy.”

“Why did the Indian government give permission for this match? You’re playing against those who sponsor terrorism. Is this right?” Alvi said, raising concerns about the government’s stance. He further questioned the central government’s contradictory approach, pointing out that while it has refused dialogue with Pakistan on terrorism issues, it is allowing cricket matches between the two nations.

Speaking to ANI, Alvi criticized the BJP’s stance on Pakistan, referencing statements made by BJP leaders condemning Pakistan. “Every BJP leader says that if Congress wins, there will be celebrations in Pakistan. Now, India is playing cricket with the Pakistan team. What kind of policy is this? If Pakistan is our enemy, what’s the point of playing with them?” Alvi remarked.

The Congress leader also condemned the government’s position, citing the ongoing conflict in Kashmir and the deaths of Indian soldiers. “The government has said they won’t talk until terrorism ends. Has terrorism ended? Haven’t our soldiers been martyred in Kashmir? What will the families of those soldiers think?” Alvi added, calling the government’s policy “beyond understanding.”

Alvi further accused the government of disrespecting the families of fallen soldiers by permitting the match. “By allowing this match, the government is disrespecting the families of our martyred soldiers. How will they tolerate this?” he questioned.

As India prepares to face Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy, the match is crucial for both teams—Pakistan fighting to stay in the tournament and India looking to secure a semi-final spot. The game is also being seen as an opportunity for India to avenge their loss in the 2017 Champions Trophy final, where they were defeated by Pakistan.

With Pakistan leading India 3-2 in Champions Trophy encounters, the rivalry has only intensified, and the 2017 final remains a significant talking point ahead of Sunday’s match. The upcoming game promises to be an exciting clash for cricket fans on both sides of the border.
