Congress leader and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday described the party’s ongoing Congress Working Committee (CWC) and All India Congress Committee (AICC) meetings in Ahmedabad as a “turning point” for the party’s future.

Shivakumar, who also heads the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), emphasized the importance of these gatherings, saying they would focus on strengthening grassroots structures and revamping the organization nationwide.

“We had a meeting of all the District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents in Delhi. Many leaders shared valuable suggestions, and we are going to deliberate on those. This will be a turning point for the Congress party,” he told ANI.

He further stated that 2024 would be dedicated to organizational rebuilding. “Under the presidency of Mallikarjun Kharge and the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, we want to revamp the entire country’s organisation. We aim to empower our workers from the district to block levels,” Shivakumar said, calling the ongoing AICC session “historic.”

Party media and publicity department chairman Pawan Khera echoed similar optimism. Drawing on Gujarat’s legacy as the birthplace of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, he said, “Gujarat has always shown the way during dark times. This session will inspire Congress and change the course of national politics.”

The 84th National Convention of the AICC, being held April 8–9, returns to Gujarat after 64 years. The meetings, set against the scenic Sabarmati Riverfront, have drawn senior party leaders including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and KC Venugopal.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh had earlier underscored the historical connection between Gujarat and the Congress party, and said this session would help chart a fresh course ahead of upcoming national challenges.
