The First Class Judicial Magistrate DKK Mihsill has granted bail to Silome James, a co-accused in the high-profile Raja Raghuvanshi murder case.
Represented by Advocate Devesh Sharma from Indore, James was granted regular bail upon furnishing a bond of ₹5,000. “Our argument was that my client has no connection to the case,” said Sharma.
This development comes as the Guwahati Police Crime Branch continues its investigation into alleged defamatory remarks made against the revered Maa Kamakhya Temple during a televised interview. The controversy has further intensified due to the involvement of Raja Raghuvanshi’s cousin sister, Shrishti Raghuwanshi, and a news anchor, both of whom are also facing legal scrutiny.
According to Guwahati City Police, both individuals were served notices under Section 35(3) of the BNSS, 2023, to appear before the investigating officer on June 23 and 24, but have failed to do so. A case under Sections 196(2), 299, and 302 of the BNSS has been registered at the Crime Branch police station.
Police officials allege that during the televised segment, the anchor made unverified and defamatory claims about the Kamakhya Temple—one of the most sacred Shakti Peethas in India. These remarks were reportedly endorsed by Shrishti Raghuwanshi, thereby provoking religious sentiments and potentially disturbing communal harmony.
The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues efforts to bring all involved parties to account.
