Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is actively overseeing the situation at the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025 from a dedicated war room, ensuring that operations are running smoothly. The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that CM Yogi is in constant communication with officials, including the Chief Secretary, DGP, Principal Secretary for Home, ADG Law and Order, and other key staff, all stationed in the war room to manage the event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been closely monitoring the situation, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured the state of full support from the Centre in handling the situation.

In the wake of recent disturbances at the event, various Akharas have urged devotees to take the holy dip at the ghat nearest to them, rather than congregating at the main ghats, which had seen overcrowding.

Earlier, some Akharas had called off the Amrit Snan for the day due to the chaos. However, they later announced that, as the crowd at their designated ghats has now thinned, they would proceed with the holy dip later in the day.

In a post on social media, CM Yogi Adityanath had earlier advised the devotees attending Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj to strictly follow the administration’s instructions for their safety. He called for cooperation with authorities to ensure a peaceful and smooth pilgrimage experience.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed his sorrow over the casualties resulting from the incident, which he attributed to mismanagement at the Mahakumbh. He urged the government to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured and take swift action to identify and return the deceased to their families.

“The news of casualties of devotees in an accident caused by mismanagement in Mahakumbh is extremely sad,” Akhilesh Yadav said on social media. “We urge the government to ensure that the seriously injured are quickly transported to the best hospitals with the help of air ambulances. Efforts should also be made to reunite the separated individuals and to properly identify the deceased.”

Yadav also called for the continuation of the Shahi Snan on Mauni Amavasya, with strict safety measures in place. He emphasized that this important ritual, part of an ancient tradition, should be conducted while relief work is also underway.

The SP chief urged devotees to remain patient and calm during this difficult time, and called on the government to improve arrangements for accommodation, food, water, and general facilities for pilgrims.

“The government should learn from this incident and make necessary improvements to prevent such situations in the future. I wish a speedy recovery to all those injured,” he added.
