In response to the tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has instructed the Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Rewa Division to ensure that proper safety measures are in place for devotees traveling to the Maha Kumbh. He emphasized the need for rigorous precautions at the Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh border to prevent any further incidents during the pilgrimage.
CM Yadav expressed his condolences for the lives lost in the stampede, which occurred on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya during the “Sangam Snan” at the Maha Kumbh. He confirmed that three of the deceased were from Madhya Pradesh. “It was a tragic incident, and I extend my deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. May their souls rest in peace. I also urge everyone to stay safe during the journey,” CM Yadav said in a statement to ANI.
Currently, CM Yadav is on a four-day visit to promote investment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh and encourage industrial participation in the upcoming Global Investors Summit (GIS) to be held in Bhopal on February 24-25.
The stampede at the Maha Kumbh on Wednesday resulted in at least 30 fatalities and 60 injuries. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Kumbh, Vaibhav Krishna, confirmed that 25 bodies have been identified. Among the victims, four were from Karnataka, one from Assam, and one from Gujarat. A total of 36 individuals were receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
In response to the tragedy, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a financial compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the families of those who died. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident, with a committee tasked to submit a report within a set timeframe.
The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26. Important dates for the remaining ‘snans’ include February 3 (Basant Panchami–Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
