Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, conducted a technical inspection of Metro Route 9 between Dahisar (East) and Kashigaon on Wednesday. The visit marks a significant step in the state’s push for enhanced urban mobility and seamless transit solutions for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Speaking at the inspection, Fadnavis emphasized the transformational impact of Metro 9, particularly for Mira Bhayandar and commuters traveling from Mumbai. “The trial phase of the Mahamumbai Metro 9 is being completed today. This route, from Kashigaon to Dahisar, will significantly ease travel and benefit people commuting between Mira Bhayandar and Mumbai. Our focus remains on achieving seamless connectivity,” he said.
Highlighting a unique engineering innovation, Fadnavis noted that for the first time in Mumbai Metro’s history, a double chamber structure is being implemented. “This metro and railway bridge will exist within a single integrated structure, reducing major traffic congestion. We aim to extend this to Virar, and interconnect all metro lines. Work will proceed rapidly, with completion targeted by the end of 2027,” he added.
In parallel infrastructure advancements, Fadnavis also inaugurated Mumbai’s first cable-stayed Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Reay Road and the Titwala ROB via video conferencing.
Describing the new Reay Road bridge, he said, “It’s a beautifully designed, aesthetic cable-stayed structure that will greatly benefit the public. Thanks to MahaRail, we are seeing strong progress on similar projects across the state.”
The Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), or MahaRail, announced the inauguration of both ROBs, calling it a milestone in their commitment to modernize and expand transportation infrastructure throughout Maharashtra.
These efforts are part of a broader strategy to build integrated, efficient, and future-ready transport systems to support the growing demands of the state’s urban population.
