In line with directives from the Union Home Ministry, Civil Defence teams in Lucknow have begun preparations for a major mock drill set to take place on May 7, simulating emergency response measures in the event of an air attack or large-scale disaster.
The exercise aims to strengthen citizen protection protocols, including crowd management and damage mitigation strategies. At the Civil Defence Control Room in Lucknow, Chief Ward Amarnath Mishra led a preparedness session with all personnel to review protective measures and assign responsibilities in case of an enemy airstrike.
“Today, we conducted a meeting to train our teams on how to safeguard citizens if an enemy country launches an air attack. Volunteers were instructed on precautionary steps and how to control crowds during such emergencies to minimize damage,” Mishra said.
Emphasizing readiness alongside national defence efforts, he added, “While the army is guarding the borders, Civil Defence volunteers are preparing to protect the public within the city.”
Simultaneously, Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar has instructed all districts in the state to conduct similar mock drills. He highlighted that 19 districts have been classified based on sensitivity, with Category A, B, and C zones, but the government has ordered drills across all districts regardless of category.
“These drills will involve police, fire services, civil administration, and disaster response units to ensure comprehensive emergency preparedness,” Kumar noted.
The Union Home Ministry has mandated these nationwide drills amid heightened regional tensions. The measures include air raid siren activation, blackout provisions, camouflage of vital installations, and updated evacuation plans.
With increased tension along the border, especially after the Pahalgam terror attack, both military and civilian bodies are ramping up their readiness to respond swiftly and effectively to any hostile threat.
