In the wake of Operation Sindoor and increasing hostilities along the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian government on Thursday convened an all-party meeting to brief political leaders on the nation’s counter-terrorism actions and ensure political unity during this critical time.
The meeting, held at the Parliament Annexe building, saw the participation of key leaders across party lines, including Union Minister JP Nadda, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized the importance of national unity, stating, “The Prime Minister is clear that in a situation like this, the nation must stand united, not divided. Operation Sindoor has been successfully executed, and the world is aware of India’s resolve.”
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay lauded the armed forces for the precision and success of the strikes carried out under Operation Sindoor, adding, “We salute the Armed Forces. Every Indian is proud today. The world must hear our united stand against terrorism.”
The Centre’s call for the meeting followed Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. Nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were destroyed in India’s retaliatory strikes.
Congress leaders KC Venugopal confirmed in advance that both Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi would represent the party in the meeting. The gathering aimed to maintain bipartisan consensus and share operational clarity with opposition leaders.
Tensions have further escalated with the Pakistani Army initiating unprovoked small-arms and artillery fire across the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor sectors between May 7 and 8. According to the Indian Army, a proportionate and calibrated response was delivered to the provocations.
As India navigates this volatile situation, Thursday’s all-party meeting underscored the necessity of political cohesion and collective resolve in the face of external threats.
