The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in coordination with INTERPOL and UAE authorities, has successfully secured the deportation of Kubbawala Mustafa—an accused in a major synthetic drug case—from the United Arab Emirates to India.

Mustafa, wanted by Mumbai Police in connection with an FIR registered at Kurla Police Station (No. 67/2024), was arrested for allegedly operating a synthetic drug manufacturing unit in Sangli while based abroad. Authorities recovered and seized 126.141 kg of Mephedrone, valued at approximately Rs 2.52 crore, from the facility linked to him.

A Red Notice was issued against Mustafa on November 25, 2024, following a request by Mumbai Police. The CBI’s International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU), in close coordination with NCB-Abu Dhabi, geo-located Mustafa in the UAE. A four-member team from Mumbai Police travelled to Dubai on July 7, and brought him back to Mumbai on July 11.

The return follows a formal request made by UAE authorities on June 19, 2025, for an Indian security mission to facilitate the handover.

CBI, functioning as India’s National Central Bureau (NCB) for INTERPOL, has played a pivotal role in tracking and securing the return of over 100 fugitives in recent years via BHARATPOL and international law enforcement channels.

The accused now faces further legal proceedings in India, where a court has already issued an open-dated arrest warrant against him.
