A British woman tourist was allegedly raped at a hotel in the Mahipalpur area of Delhi by a man she had befriended on social media. Delhi Police confirmed on Thursday that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident — one for the alleged rape and the other on molestation charges.
According to police reports, the woman had traveled from the UK to meet the accused after forming an online friendship. Upon her arrival in Delhi, she booked a hotel room where she met the man on Tuesday. However, their meeting soon turned hostile when the accused allegedly attempted to assault her, leading to a heated argument.
The situation escalated when the accused allegedly raped the woman. Following the assault, she managed to escape to the hotel reception. As she tried to leave the premises, another man reportedly molested her in the hotel lift.
Delhi Police acted promptly after the victim reported the incident, registering a case and arresting both suspects. Officials have also informed the British High Commission about the matter.
An investigation is currently underway to gather more details and ensure justice for the victim.
