An IndiGo flight (6E 2706) travelling from Muscat to Delhi via Kochi made an emergency landing at Nagpur Airport on Tuesday after receiving a bomb threat mid-flight.
According to Lohit Matani, DCP Nagpur, all passengers were safely deboarded. A bomb squad and security personnel conducted thorough checks, but no suspicious object has been found so far. The incident remains under investigation.
This marks the third bomb threat targeting international flights bound for India in recent days.
On Monday, a Lufthansa flight (LH752) from Frankfurt to Hyderabad was forced to return to Germany following a bomb threat received via email. As per standard protocol, a threat assessment committee was convened, and the airline was advised to divert the flight out of precaution.
A Lufthansa spokesperson confirmed the U-turn was made “out of an abundance of caution” and added: “The safety of our passengers and crew is Lufthansa’s highest priority. Passengers were provided accommodation and are continuing their journey to Hyderabad today.”
The Hyderabad airport authorities stated the threat email was received before the aircraft entered Indian airspace, prompting the diversion.
In another similar case on June 13, Air India flight AI 379 from Phuket (Thailand) to Delhi received a bomb threat and was diverted back to the island. Security agencies cleared the aircraft after inspection.
Authorities are continuing their investigations into all three incidents, with aviation security agencies working to trace the origin of the threats and assess any possible links between them.
