BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, accusing it of corruption following revelations in the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. Chugh alleged that Arvind Kejriwal’s administration prioritized its liquor policy over education and public welfare.

“Today the CAG report is being discussed in the Delhi Assembly. Discussion on theft and scams is essential for a healthy democracy… Instead of opening schools, Arvind Kejriwal’s government opened bars in Delhi,” Chugh told ANI.

He further asserted that the BJP’s Delhi unit would bring the issue before the public and ensure that those responsible for corruption are held accountable. “Those who looted the money of the poor will not be spared,” he said.

In response, AAP leader Atishi defended the previous AAP-led government, arguing that the CAG report highlighted flaws in the old excise policy — issues AAP had already exposed while implementing a new policy.

Addressing the press, Atishi explained, “The excise audit report presented in the Delhi Assembly today covers the excise policy from 2017 to 2021 and the revised policy. The Delhi government had already revealed the corruption in the old policy to the people.”

She further alleged that under the older policy, liquor was illegally sourced from neighboring states, leading to significant financial losses for Delhi.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, AAP MLAs and Leader of Opposition Atishi staged a protest outside the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, holding ‘Jai Bhim’ placards after being denied entry into the Assembly premises.

The CAG report on the Delhi Excise Policy was tabled in the Assembly by newly elected Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday, highlighting alleged irregularities during the previous AAP government’s tenure.
