BJP leader CR Kesavan has accused the DMK government of using the delimitation issue as a distraction to shift focus from its alleged governance failures and corruption in Tamil Nadu. He also took aim at the Congress, calling its stance on delimitation contradictory and opportunistic.

Speaking ahead of Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin’s Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting on delimitation, Kesavan said, “The DMK staging this delimitation drama is a diversionary tactic to deflect public attention from its corrupt, failed, and disastrous misrule. Its divisive politics of fear-mongering will backfire.”

Kesavan also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of political opportunism. He pointed out the contradiction between the Congress’ opposition to delimitation and Gandhi’s slogan, “Jitni abadi, utna haath” (rights proportional to population).

“Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party are engaging in opportunistic politics. They oppose delimitation today, yet their leader calls for rights based on population. This contradiction is clear to the country now,” Kesavan stated.

The BJP leader also accused the DMK of using National Education Policy (NEP) and delimitation debates as a cover for its governance failures over the past four years.

“The DMK’s theatrics on NEP and delimitation are mere distractions from their failures. If they were serious, they would break their alliance with Congress. But they won’t, because they are just as opportunistic,” he said.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders from various states have started arriving in Chennai for the first JAC meeting on delimitation, called by CM MK Stalin.

Stalin has framed the issue as a threat to federalism, calling for a unified opposition against the BJP-led Centre. He wrote to the Chief Ministers of seven states, urging them to join the fight against what he called an “unfair exercise.”

In a video message on X, Stalin stressed that delimitation isn’t just about parliamentary seats but about Tamil Nadu’s rights.

“Delimitation in 2026 could severely impact our representation in Parliament. This is not just about MPs but about our state’s rights. That is why we have convened this all-party meeting. Except for the BJP, every other party is united,” he said.

Earlier, Stalin had called an all-party meeting to discuss delimitation’s impact on Tamil Nadu, but the BJP boycotted the meeting.

The political battle over delimitation is heating up, with the BJP and DMK locked in a war of words, while opposition parties rally behind Stalin in his fight against the Centre.
