BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi launched a sharp attack on the INDIA bloc on Monday over their opposition to the Waqf Amendment Act, particularly criticising RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for remarks made during a rally in Patna.

Speaking at a press conference, Trivedi accused parties like the RJD and Samajwadi Party of masquerading as socialists while prioritising vote-bank politics.

“These parties are not standing up for the rights of the poor and oppressed Muslims. If their version of socialism is called Namazvad, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration,” he said.

Trivedi condemned Tejashwi Yadav’s statement in which the RJD leader had reportedly said he would “throw the law passed by Parliament into the dustbin.”

“It is deeply saddening that the same Gandhi Maidan in Patna, where people once assembled to protect the Constitution during the Emergency, was used to make such unconstitutional remarks,” he added.

He underscored that the Waqf Amendment Act had been passed in both Houses of Parliament, and is now under judicial review in the Supreme Court, backed by prior rulings from the Allahabad and Calcutta High Courts.

Trivedi claimed that the opposition is stuck in a 50-year-old mindset, disrespecting constitutional institutions for political gain.

“There is no regard for Parliament, judiciary, or the Constitution. Their statements reveal a regressive approach motivated by vote-bank politics.”

The Waqf Amendment Act, passed on April 3 and 4 and signed into law on April 5, continues to stir political controversy. Opposition leaders, including Tejashwi Yadav, have been vocal in their protests, calling the law discriminatory and vowing to oppose it.
