Hundreds of students and job aspirants staged protests in Patna on Monday, demanding that the Bihar government immediately release recruitment notifications for police and other government posts before the upcoming assembly elections.

Protesters alleged that no new vacancies for police constables or other posts have been announced for over two years, leaving aspirants uncertain about their future. They also sought the release of answer keys and question booklets for the Bihar Police Sub-Ordinate Service Commission (BPSSC) and Central Selection Board of Constable (CSBC) exams.

Carrying out the “Mukhyamantri Awas Gherao” campaign, students marched towards Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s residence. Police had set up barricades to stop them, but in some places demonstrators managed to break through.

“Our protest is peaceful. We only demand the release of vacancies before elections. Students have been waiting for years,” said protester Khusbu Pathak. Another aspirant, Nitish Kumar, noted, “We are sons of poor farmers, not MLAs or MPs. For two years, no constable vacancies have been announced. It’s hard for us to stay in Patna and study without clarity.”

Some students declared they would meet only the Chief Minister or Chief Secretary to press their demands.

The protest comes as Bihar heads towards assembly polls expected in October-November. The job crisis has emerged as a major issue, with students earlier staging demonstrations against reduced teaching posts in the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4).

Currently, the ruling NDA holds 131 seats in the 243-member Bihar Assembly, while the Opposition INDIA bloc controls 111.
