Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Santosh Kumar Singh died from injuries sustained in an attack by a family in Nandalpur village, Munger district, on Friday. The incident occurred when ASI Singh responded to a disturbance caused by the family of Ranveer Kumar.
Munger Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Imran Masood confirmed that Singh was attacked by individuals, allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The assailants struck him on the head, leaving him critically injured. He was initially treated at Sadar Hospital before being transferred to Patna Paras Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.
The attackers are currently on the run, and police have launched a manhunt to apprehend them. SP Masood assured that teams have been formed to track down the suspects.
This incident follows a similar one on March 13, when ASI Rajiv Ranjan from Fulkaha police station was killed during a clash between police and villagers in Laxmipur village, Araria. In that case, police had gone to arrest a criminal, but the situation escalated, leading to the ASI’s death. Six individuals have been arrested in connection with that case.
The investigation into the Munger attack is ongoing, with further updates expected.
