West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Saturday met with victims of the Murshidabad violence that erupted on April 11 during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, and assured them that their demands would be raised with both the central and state governments.

Speaking to reporters, Governor Bose said the victims primarily seek a “sense of security” and shared various concerns and requests, which he promised to follow up on. “All this will be considered. I will take it up with the Government of India and the State Government for appropriate action,” he said, adding that he has given victims his direct contact number to ensure open communication.

The Governor’s visit came a day after he toured a relief camp in Par Lalpur, Malda, where he interacted with families who had fled the violence. Many of them have been displaced, with some taking refuge in relief camps and others migrating to Jharkhand’s Pakur district.

Meanwhile, National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, who also visited the violence-hit Jafrabad area in Murshidabad, expressed deep concern over the trauma faced by victims. After meeting the family of a father-son duo killed during the unrest, Rahatkar said, “These people are in so much pain, I am speechless. It’s inhuman.”

The NCW said it will submit a report to the Centre and present the demands of the victims to the government.

The violence on April 11 claimed three lives, left several others injured, and caused widespread displacement and destruction, prompting growing calls for accountability and relief measures from both state and national authorities.
