Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Leader of Opposition Atishi on Monday lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging a rise in power cuts in the national capital since the party took charge.
Targeting the Rekha Gupta-led administration, Atishi claimed that the BJP government has failed to sustain Delhi’s 24-hour electricity supply model, which was a hallmark of the AAP-led government.
“Since the BJP government was formed in Delhi, power cuts have been increasing. Social media is flooded with complaints every day. Data from the Delhi government shows that power outages have risen in multiple areas since March 1,” Atishi told reporters.
Accusing the BJP of governance failure, she added, “They don’t know how to run a government. They are not eligible, which is why the 24-hour power supply system has collapsed.”
Atishi further emphasized that during Arvind Kejriwal’s tenure, inverters and generators had almost vanished from Delhi households due to uninterrupted electricity.
“For the past 10 years, people in Delhi didn’t need inverters. Unlike before, they did not have to buy new inverter batteries every summer,” she stated.
Her remarks came after residents of Jagatpur village in Burari staged a protest against Delhi’s electricity department, citing prolonged power outages in the area.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal also criticized the BJP-led Delhi government, accusing it of worsening the power supply situation in the city.
Meanwhile, Atishi also took on the BJP over the Mahila Samridhi Yojana 2025, claiming that the party had failed to deliver on its promise of providing ₹2,500 to women by March 8.
“When we raised this question in the Delhi Assembly, all AAP MLAs were removed from the House. This clearly indicates that the BJP government never intended to fulfill this promise,” she said.
Atishi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leaders of misleading the people of Delhi.
“PM Modi and the BJP promised ₹2,500 for women, but they failed to transfer even a single rupee. They have lied to the people of Delhi, offering only ‘jumlas’ instead of real benefits,” she asserted.
