Delhi’s Leader of Opposition, Atishi, on Wednesday strongly condemned the attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a weekly Jan Sunvai at her Civil Lines residence, stressing that violence has no place in democracy.
In a post on X, Atishi wrote, “The attack on Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is highly condemnable. In a democracy, there is a place for disagreement and protest, but there is no place for violence. I hope the Delhi Police takes the strictest action against the culprits. I also hope that the Chief Minister is completely safe.”
Earlier in the day, CM Rekha Gupta was allegedly attacked during her public interaction session. Police have begun an inquiry into the incident.
Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva also denounced the incident, saying, “A mishap happened during Jan Sunvai at CM Residence, Civil Lines. Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva strongly condemns the attack on CM Rekha Gupta during the weekly Jan Sunvai. Police inquiry will reveal details.”
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav termed the attack “unfortunate” while raising concerns over the CM’s security. “The CM leads the entire Delhi. If she is not safe, then who else is? This also exposes the reality of women’s safety in the state,” Yadav said.
Several other leaders, including Kapil Mishra and Manjinder Singh Sirsa, also condemned the attack and called for strict action.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
