Assam is set to host Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a two-day visit beginning Friday, during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth over ₹18,530 crore and take part in the centenary celebrations of music legend Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

The Prime Minister will attend the birth centenary programme of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika at Veterinary College Field, Khanapara, Guwahati, at 5 pm. Nearly 1,200 artists will perform some of Hazarika’s most iconic songs in tribute to the cultural icon, as PM Modi addresses the gathering.

Ahead of his arrival, elaborate security arrangements and traffic curbs have been enforced across Guwahati, with personnel deployed at key venues to ensure smooth conduct of the events.

On September 14, PM Modi will visit Darrang district to lay the foundation stone of projects worth over ₹3,600 crore, including the Darrang Medical College and Hospital, a GNM School, and a B.Sc. Nursing College. He will also launch several road and infrastructure initiatives before addressing a public meeting.

Later the same day, the Prime Minister will travel to Numaligarh in Golaghat district, where he will inaugurate the Assam Bio-ethanol Plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) — a project aimed at boosting clean energy and reducing carbon emissions. He will also lay the foundation stone for NRL’s Polypropylene Plant, a major petrochemical venture expected to strengthen Assam’s industrial base.

Officials said the initiatives under Modi’s visit will significantly enhance connectivity, healthcare, energy transition, and industrial growth, while generating new employment opportunities across Assam.
