Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Monday extended warm congratulations to Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan following his nomination as the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) Vice-Presidential candidate.
In a post on X, Meghwal praised Radhakrishnan’s dedication and leadership qualities, expressing confidence that his experience would strengthen democracy and provide new direction to the nation.
“Heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency the Governor of Maharashtra, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan Ji, on being declared the NDA’s Vice-Presidential candidate. I am confident that your dedication, experience, diligent leadership, and commitment to work in the interest of the nation will strengthen democracy and provide a new direction to the country,” Meghwal wrote.
The Vice-Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh overseeing the process on behalf of the NDA.
On Sunday, BJP President JP Nadda formally announced Radhakrishnan’s candidature after the party’s Parliamentary Board meeting in New Delhi. Nadda said the NDA would also reach out to the Opposition in hopes of achieving a consensus for an unopposed election.
Currently serving as the 24th Governor of Maharashtra since July 31, 2024, Radhakrishnan was chosen after the Vice President’s post fell vacant following Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation on July 21 due to health reasons.
Dhankhar, in his resignation letter, stated: “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”
