Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday issued a scathing rebuke of Pakistan’s nuclear posturing, questioning the safety of its nuclear arsenal and urging global scrutiny. Speaking from Srinagar during his visit to interact with Armed Forces personnel, Singh raised alarm over what he called Pakistan’s “irresponsible” behavior and called for international oversight of its nuclear weapons.

“From the land of Srinagar, I want to raise a question — are nuclear weapons safe in the hands of such an irresponsible and rogue nation like Pakistan? I believe Pakistan’s nuclear weapons should be brought under the supervision of the **International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” he said.

The remarks came in the wake of Operation Sindoor, India’s cross-border precision strike in response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed. Singh lauded the Indian Army’s accuracy and restraint, stating that India has stood strong against terrorism without yielding to Pakistan’s so-called “nuclear blackmail.”

“How strong is India’s pledge against terrorism today? We didn’t even flinch at their nuclear threats. The world has seen how recklessly Pakistan has behaved,” he added.

Singh praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the Indian Army for the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, saying: “The country is proud of what you did. The way you destroyed enemy positions and infrastructure across the border has left a lasting message.”

He also acknowledged the unity and resolve shown by the people of Jammu and Kashmir, saying their anger against Pakistan and terrorism reflects a “new India that does not tolerate provocation.”

The Defence Minister began his address with a chant of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and paid tribute to fallen soldiers and civilian victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. He also commended the injured soldiers and wished for their swift recovery.

“I bow to the supreme sacrifice of our jawans and the innocent civilians. Their courage and suffering will not be forgotten.”

Singh inspected shell remnants from recent cross-border attacks, underlining the ongoing threat posed by Pakistan’s actions. His visit follows Prime Minister Modi’s inspection of the Adampur Air Base, further underscoring the government’s heightened military and strategic focus in the region.

As tensions remain high, Singh’s statements signal a strong diplomatic message to the international community about the potential dangers of nuclear weapons in Pakistan’s hands, and reinforce India’s stance of zero tolerance toward cross-border terrorism.
