Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir on April 7-8 to assess the security situation and interact with security personnel, sources confirmed on Monday.
During his visit, Shah will chair a high-level security review meeting with senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and intelligence agencies. Discussions will focus on counter-terrorism operations, cross-border infiltration attempts, and the overall security landscape in the Union Territory.
The Home Minister is also expected to visit forward areas along the International Border to inspect security arrangements and boost the morale of the forces stationed there. His visit comes at a time of heightened efforts to combat terrorism and strengthen border security, particularly following recent terror activities in the Kathua district that disrupted peace in the region.
Shah’s previous visit to Jammu and Kashmir in October 2022 saw the announcement of several developmental projects and discussions with political leaders, security officials, and local representatives. Since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, the government has intensified counter-terrorism measures and launched various initiatives to enhance infrastructure and development in the region.
This visit is expected to reinforce those efforts, with a renewed focus on security and the safety of civilians.
Amit Shah had also visited Jammu during the recent Assembly elections in the region. In September 2024, he launched the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election campaign, addressing party workers and public rallies while emphasizing the BJP’s commitment to development and security.
During that visit, he criticized opposition parties, particularly the National Conference (NC) and Congress, for allegedly misleading the public regarding the restoration of statehood. He reiterated that the central government would restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood at an appropriate time after the elections.
