Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to chair a crucial meeting on Saturday to review the security situation in Manipur following the imposition of President’s Rule in the state.

This meeting comes in the wake of the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh on February 9 amid escalating violence and ongoing political instability that has gripped Manipur for nearly two years.

On February 13, President’s Rule was officially imposed in Manipur after the state governor’s report highlighted the deteriorating situation. The proclamation, published in the Gazette of India and issued by the Union Home Ministry, transferred the powers of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to Parliament, effectively suspending the state government’s authority.

In November last year, Amit Shah held a high-level review meeting in the national capital with senior officials to assess the evolving security situation in Manipur. The discussions focused on recent developments, with top officials providing a comprehensive assessment of ongoing challenges and response measures.

During that meeting, Shah reviewed security deployment in the state and directed Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and state police officials to maintain peace and order in the region.

The violence in Manipur began on May 3 last year following clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest the demand for the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category. The situation remains tense, with efforts ongoing to restore stability and ensure public safety.
