Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday lauded the decision of three more separatist-linked organisations to sever ties with the Hurriyat Conference, calling it a significant endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a united and strong India.

In a post on X, Shah announced that the Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party, the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League, and the Kashmir Freedom Front have officially distanced themselves from the Hurriyat.

“This is a prominent demonstration of the people’s trust in the Constitution of India within the valley. Modi Ji’s vision for a united and powerful Bharat stands even more bolstered today, as so far 11 such organizations have shunned separatism, proclaiming unwavering support for it,” Shah wrote.

The development comes after a series of moves by the Union Government targeting separatist outfits in Jammu and Kashmir. On March 11, the Ministry of Home Affairs banned two prominent Hurriyat-affiliated groups—Awami Action Committee, led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Jammu and Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen, headed by Masroor Abbas Ansari—for five years, citing anti-national activities.

Earlier in March, two other organisations had also announced their disassociation from the Hurriyat, making it a growing trend of separatist disengagement in the region.

During a discussion on the Ministry of Home Affairs’ functioning in Parliament last month, Shah revealed that 14 Hurriyat-linked organisations have been banned between 2019 and 2024, contrasting this with what he described as the previous governments’ “soft” stance on terrorism for political gain.

Reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, Shah underscored the shift towards a stronger internal security approach under Modi’s leadership.

Separately, while addressing BSF personnel at the ‘Vinay’ border outpost in Kathua on Monday, Shah emphasized the Centre’s commitment to bolstering border security with advanced technology.

He noted that technical upgrades, including threat detection and rapid response systems, would soon enhance security infrastructure not just along the India-Pakistan border but also at the India-Bangladesh frontier.

“Whatever support BSF needs, we are committed to delivering it. Currently, 26 pilot programs are underway, and within the next year, we expect to finalize significant advancements that will greatly benefit border personnel,” Shah added.
