Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday chaired a high-level meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to discuss the rejuvenation of the Yamuna River, focusing on coordinated efforts between the Centre and the Delhi government to address pollution and restore the river’s health.

The meeting was attended by Union Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar and CR Patil, Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Delhi government.

The discussions centred around action plans aimed at improving water quality, addressing untreated sewage, and deploying real-time pollution monitoring systems in the Yamuna.

Earlier this week, CM Rekha Gupta’s government rolled out a 45-point action plan under the Delhi Jal Board, with a budget of ₹9,000 crore, to tackle the capital’s water issues and spearhead the Yamuna cleaning campaign. The initiative includes infrastructure upgrades, improved tanker transparency, and the overhaul of sewerage systems, with a completion target set for next year.

In addition, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) will re-verify 360 major and minor drains flowing into the Yamuna and conduct drone surveys of 22 major drains. Pollution will be monitored at 67 designated sites, with survey results expected to be submitted to the Delhi Jal Board later this month.

The Centre and Delhi government reaffirmed their commitment to working together to ensure the Yamuna is restored to a clean and healthy state, benefiting both the environment and public health in the capital.
