The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Saturday announced the removal of senior leader and MLA K.A. Sengottaiyan from all party responsibilities with immediate effect.

Party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) issued an official communication stating that Sengottaiyan has been relieved of his roles as District Organisation Secretary and District Secretary of the Erode Suburban West District.

Sengottaiyan, however, welcomed the move, saying he was satisfied with the decision of the party high command.

The action follows Palaniswami’s meeting in Dindigul earlier in the day with seven senior leaders and former ministers, including Dindigul Srinivasan, Natham Viswanathan, K.P. Munusamy, S.P. Velumani, Kamaraj, O.S. Manian, and Vijayabaskar.

The development comes a day after Sengottaiyan publicly urged the AIADMK leadership to reinstate expelled leaders such as V.K. Sasikala, O. Panneerselvam, and T.T.V. Dhinakaran, arguing that their return was crucial for electoral success.

“I am working to ensure a united AIADMK. Since 2016, election results have not been in our favour. If we had an alliance with the BJP, we would have won 30 seats in the Parliament election,” Sengottaiyan had said at a press conference, adding that the party could only succeed if it brought back the expelled leaders.

Despite his appeal, EPS and the AIADMK leadership chose to relieve him of his organisational roles, signalling widening rifts within the party over its future direction.
