AAP Denies Speculations of Arvind Kejriwal Contesting Rajya Sabha, Calls Claims “Baseless”

Amid ongoing media speculation about Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking a Rajya Sabha seat, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar has dismissed the claims as “absolutely wrong.”

Kakkar clarified, “Arvind Kejriwal is not going to Rajya Sabha. Media sources previously suggested that he would become the Chief Minister of Punjab, and now they are claiming he will contest from Rajya Sabha. Both of these speculations are absolutely wrong. Arvind Kejriwal is the national convenor of AAP and is not limited to any one seat.”

The rumors began after AAP nominated Rajya Sabha MP Sanjiv Arora as a candidate for the Ludhiana West assembly by-election, which led to speculation that Kejriwal would fill the Rajya Sabha seat vacated by Arora.

In a separate development, Arvind Kejriwal also targeted the BJP, accusing the party of removing a photo of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar from government offices, including the Chief Minister’s office and the Delhi Vidhan Sabha. He claimed that this action had hurt millions of Ambedkar’s followers and expressed his disapproval in an X post, stating, “The new BJP government of Delhi removed Babasaheb’s photo and put up the photo of Prime Minister Modi. This is not right.”

Kejriwal urged the BJP not to remove Ambedkar’s photo, suggesting that while Modi’s photo could be displayed, Ambedkar’s should remain as well. The AAP staged a protest outside the Delhi Assembly, displaying a photo of Babasaheb Ambedkar, while BJP CM Rekha Gupta presented the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the Delhi Excise Policy.

In response to the protest, Speaker Vijender Gupta suspended 21 AAP MLAs until February 28 and announced the formation of a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) comprising 12-14 members from both the ruling and opposition parties.
