At a meeting held on Sunday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi as the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. The decision was made unanimously by AAP’s legislative party, as confirmed by senior AAP leader Gopal Rai during a press briefing following the meeting.

“In today’s legislative party meeting, we have unanimously decided that Atishi will be the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. Atishi has always stood strong during challenging times and served the people of Delhi as the Chief Minister. AAP is committed to playing the role of a constructive and healthy opposition,” Rai stated.

Atishi expressed her gratitude towards AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and the elected party MLAs for entrusting her with this responsibility.

During the press conference, Atishi emphasized AAP’s commitment to holding the ruling BJP accountable, particularly with respect to the promises they made during the elections. She pointed out that the BJP failed to implement a key scheme in its first cabinet meeting, which promised Rs 2,500 in financial assistance to women.

“People of Delhi have chosen AAP as their opposition, and a strong opposition knows how to voice the concerns of the public in the assembly. We will ensure the BJP fulfills its promises. The most significant promise made by PM Modi was that the Rs 2,500 assistance scheme for women would be approved in the first cabinet meeting. However, this scheme was not passed,” Atishi said.

She further assured the people of Delhi that AAP would hold the BJP accountable and make sure the promised Rs 2,500 assistance for women is delivered.

In the recent Delhi Assembly elections, AAP secured only 22 seats, while the BJP won 48 out of the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly.
