The first Amrit Snan of Maha Kumbh 2025, held on Makar Sankranti, saw a massive turnout at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, with the total number of devotees crossing the 10 million mark by Tuesday morning.

Prashant Kumar, Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, shared updates on the occasion, stating: “As of 7 AM, 98 lakh 20 thousand people had already taken the holy dip, and by now, the count has likely surpassed one crore. Several Akharas, including Juna, Awahan, and Agni, are in the process of performing their sacred baths.”

Kumar also emphasized the efficient monitoring of the event through multiple control rooms operated by senior officials, including the DGP, Chief Secretary, and CM control room.

In addition to Prayagraj, the tradition of Makar Sankranti Snan was observed across major cities in Uttar Pradesh, including Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Ayodhya, along the banks of various holy rivers.

On the first day of the world’s largest religious gathering, over 1.5 crore pilgrims had taken a dip at the Sangam, reflecting the grandeur and faith associated with the event.

Extending heartfelt congratulations to the devotees, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the sacred event as a “living form of India’s eternal culture and faith.”

In a post on X, he wrote: “Today, on the auspicious occasion of the great festival of folk faith, ‘Makar Sankranti,’ congratulations to all the devotees who earned virtue by taking the first ‘Amrit Snan’ at the Triveni Sangam in Mahakumbh-2025, Prayagraj!”

The Chief Minister also extended his Makar Sankranti wishes to the people of the state, calling it a day to express gratitude to the Sun God, the “father of the universe.”

Sadhus from the 13 Akharas of Sanatan Dharma are participating in the holy rituals at the Triveni Sangam, symbolizing the spiritual depth and unity of the event.

The Maha Kumbh 2025, which began with this first Amrit Snan, is set to continue until February 26, 2025, drawing millions more in what is regarded as the world’s largest congregation of faith and devotion.
