Fans will have to wait a bit longer for the next chapter in the Spider-Verse saga. Sony Pictures has officially postponed the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse by three weeks, now setting its premiere for June 25, 2027, instead of the originally announced June 4, 2027, according to Deadline.
The highly anticipated third installment will continue the multiversal adventures of Miles Morales, following the cliffhanger ending of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023). That film left viewers stunned as Miles found himself trapped in an alternate universe, face-to-face with a villainous version of himself known as the Prowler.
With Beyond the Spider-Verse, audiences are expected to see how characters like Gwen Stacy and Peter B. Parker rally to save Miles and restore order across the multiverse. The extended timeline is reportedly due to production delays stemming from the 2023 Hollywood strikes, allowing creators more breathing room to deliver a polished finale.
The Spider-Verse franchise has garnered immense acclaim and commercial success, with the first two films collectively grossing over $1.08 billion worldwide. Into the Spider-Verse (2018) even won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The film is being directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, with a screenplay by David Callaham, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller. Lord and Miller return as producers alongside Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh.
Sony also announced the release date for another animated project, Buds, which is slated to premiere on March 12, 2027.
