Mumbai Police on Friday detained a suspect in connection with the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence. The individual has been brought to the Bandra Police Station for further questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
Earlier, the police revealed they had recovered a portion of the blade extracted from Saif’s back during surgery, while efforts to locate the remaining fragment are still underway.
The police had also reported that the accused was last seen near Bandra railway station, and it is suspected that he boarded a local train heading towards Vasai-Virar shortly after the incident. Search operations are currently focused on the Vasai, Nalasopara, and Virar areas.
The incident took place at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday at Saif’s 11th-floor flat in Bandra. An intruder entered the residence via the fire escape staircase and confronted the actor’s maid, demanding one crore rupees. When Saif intervened in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, the intruder attacked him with a hexa blade and a wooden object, inflicting multiple stab wounds.
Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where doctors performed surgery to remove a 2.5-inch-long knife lodged in his thoracic spinal cord. The injury had caused significant damage, including leaking spinal fluid, which was repaired during the operation. While Saif is “out of danger,” he remains under close observation in the ICU, with plans to shift him to a normal ward soon.
The actor’s maid, who was the first to encounter the intruder, provided critical details in her statement to the police. She described the assailant as wielding a wooden object and a hexa blade, which injured both her hands during the altercation.
She recounted, “He ran toward me with a hexa blade and demanded money, saying, ‘I need money… one crore.’” The maid also noted that the intruder moved toward Saif’s son before the violent encounter escalated.
Mumbai Police have formed 20 teams to track down the suspect. DCP Zone 9, Dixit Gedam, confirmed that the incident appears to have been a robbery attempt. “The accused used the fire escape staircase to gain access to Saif Ali Khan’s house. We are working diligently to arrest him. Ten detection teams are actively pursuing leads, and an offence has been registered at Bandra Police Station,” Gedam said.
The stabbing incident has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with Saif’s family and fans closely monitoring updates on his recovery and the investigation. Police efforts to apprehend the suspect are ongoing, with authorities leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice.
