After two misidentifications, Mumbai Police have arrested the main suspect in the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The accused, who was apprehended in Thane, has confessed to committing the crime, police officials confirmed on Sunday.

According to authorities, the suspect worked as a waiter at a restaurant and had been using multiple aliases, including Vijay Das, Bijoy Das, and Mohammed Iliyas. He is currently being held at Khar Police Station. A detailed briefing regarding the case is scheduled to take place at the DCP Zone IX office at 9 a.m. today.

Earlier, the investigation saw two false leads. The first suspect was detained in Mumbai but was later found to have no connection to the case. The second suspect, identified as Aakash Kanojia, aged 32-33, was detained in Durg, Chhattisgarh, by the Raipur Railway Protection Force (RPF) while traveling on the Jnaneswari Express train. However, Kanojia was later cleared of involvement after questioning by Mumbai Police.

The attack on Saif Ali Khan occurred in the early hours of Thursday at his Bandra apartment, where the actor was stabbed multiple times. He sustained severe injuries, including stab wounds to his thoracic spine, and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital for emergency treatment.

Hospital officials reported that Saif underwent successful surgery to remove a 2.5-inch-long blade. While he remains “out of danger,” his condition is being closely monitored as he recovers in a regular room after being moved from the ICU.

The investigation is ongoing, and further updates regarding the case are expected as authorities piece together the motive and details of the attack.
