Mumbai Police announced on Friday that the suspect involved in the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was last seen near Bandra railway station. Authorities believe the intruder boarded a morning local train heading toward the Vasai-Virar region. Teams are currently conducting searches in Vasai, Nalasopara, and Virar, an official stated.
Earlier, police confirmed that they had recovered a fragment of the blade extracted from Saif’s back, while efforts to locate the remaining portion are ongoing.
The incident occurred at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday when an intruder entered Saif Ali Khan’s 11th-floor Bandra apartment via the fire escape staircase. The suspect confronted Saif’s maid, demanding one crore rupees, before the actor intervened to de-escalate the situation. This led to a violent altercation, during which Saif sustained multiple stab wounds.
The Bollywood star was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where doctors performed surgery to remove a 2.5-inch-long knife lodged in his spine. The injury caused significant damage to his thoracic spinal cord and leaking spinal fluid, which was successfully repaired. While Saif is “out of danger,” he remains under close monitoring in the ICU, with a decision on shifting him to a normal ward expected later today.
According to the maid’s statement, the attacker wielded a wooden object in one hand and a hexa blade in the other, injuring her hands during the scuffle. She reported that the intruder demanded money, saying, “I need money… one crore.”
The maid described seeing a shadow near the bathroom door before the assailant moved toward Saif’s son. She added, “He attacked Saif with a wooden object and a hexa blade. We managed to pull the door and run out, calling for help.” Other household staff, including Ramesh, Hari, Ramu, and Paswan, also responded to the commotion.
Mumbai Police have registered an FIR at the Bandra Police Station and formed 20 teams to apprehend the suspect. DCP Zone 9 Dixit Gedam, who is overseeing the investigation, stated, “This appears to be a robbery attempt. The accused used the fire escape staircase to enter the residence. We are working diligently to arrest him.”
Ten detection teams are actively pursuing leads, with officers monitoring railway stations and potential hideouts across the Vasai-Virar belt.
The attack has left Saif’s family shaken. His wife, Kareena Kapoor, children Sara and Ibrahim Ali Khan, and other family members have been by his side at the hospital, awaiting his recovery.
As the investigation intensifies, Mumbai Police remain committed to capturing the suspect and ensuring justice is served.
