Actor and dancer Shefali Jariwala, widely known for her iconic appearance in the early 2000s music video Kaanta Laga, has passed away at the age of 42, leaving the entertainment world in shock.
Jariwala was reportedly rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Mumbai late Friday night, where she was declared dead on arrival. While the official cause of death remains unconfirmed, initial reports suggest a possible cardiac arrest.
Mumbai Police confirmed that her body was discovered at her residence in the Andheri area. Authorities were alerted around 1 AM, after which her body was transferred to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association also confirmed her passing in a statement on X, expressing grief over her untimely demise. “Gone too soon at just 42 due to a sudden heart attack. It’s hard to believe she’s gone. May her soul rest in peace, and may God give strength to her family during this heartbreaking time,” the association posted.
Shefali Jariwala rose to stardom with the 2002 music video Kaanta Laga, a song that became a cultural phenomenon and turned her into a household name overnight. She later appeared in the 2004 Bollywood hit Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, alongside Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.
She also made a successful foray into television, featuring in popular reality shows like Bigg Boss 13 and Nach Baliye (seasons 5 and 7), where she participated with her husband, actor Parag Tyagi.
Outside of entertainment, Jariwala was known for her advocacy on mental health and women’s empowerment. She was open about her battle with epilepsy and worked to spread awareness and support for those facing similar challenges.
Her sudden death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans, fellow celebrities, and colleagues across the industry. She is survived by her husband, Parag Tyagi, with whom she shared a deep personal and professional bond.
