On Monday, renowned actor Boman Irani took to social media to share a special moment with Indian athletics legend PT Usha, hailing her as a “champion.” Irani, known for his roles in popular films like ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.’, ‘3 Idiots’, and ‘Happy New Year’, met Usha during a luncheon, accompanied by her husband, V Srinivasan.

In his post, Irani described the lunch as a profound honor. He praised Usha not just for her achievements, but for her inspiring stories about her training days. “Had lunch with a legend @ptushaofficial,” Irani wrote. “She spoke with such strength and innocence about her training in her village and on the beach, a stark contrast to today’s rigorous regimens. Even just hours before her final, she would indulge in her favorite rice. Yet, with immense determination and passion, she secured 100 medals for India.”

Irani continued, “What a champion. What an honor. What a great Indian.” Usha’s simple yet powerful response to what drove her was, “Ran for the country. That’s all.”

PT Usha, a towering figure in Indian sports, has been President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) since November 2022. Despite narrowly missing a podium finish at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Usha’s record timing of 55.42 seconds in the women’s 400m hurdles remains a national benchmark.
