Two Dead, Two Injured in Massive Fire at Residential Building in Delhi’s Old Govindpura

A devastating fire broke out at a residential building in the Old Govindpura area of Jagatpuri in Delhi’s Shahdara district on Tuesday night, leaving two people dead and two others injured.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam confirmed that the fire, which was reported around 8:46 p.m., led to the deaths of two individuals—identified as Tanveer and Nusrat. Two others, Faizal and Aasif, sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Dr Hedgewar Hospital.

According to police, six people were rescued from the blaze. “Four people were sent to Dr Hedgewar Hospital, out of which two were declared dead,” DCP Gautam said, adding that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Delhi Fire Services dispatched a total of nine fire tenders to the scene. Fire Officer Deepak Hooda stated, “We received the call around 8:45 pm. Four people were rescued and taken to the hospital. We’ve heard of two casualties, but confirmation will come from the CMO.”

Emergency response teams brought the fire under control, and an inquiry into the incident has been initiated. Further details are awaited.
