A multi-storey building collapsed early Friday morning in Gali Number 5 of Janata Colony, Seelampur, in North-East Delhi, leaving eight people injured, including a 14-month-old child. Rescue efforts are still underway, with authorities fearing that 3–4 individuals may still be trapped under the debris.

The injured include Parvez (32), Naved (19), Siza (21), Deepa (56), Govind (60), Ravi Kashyap (27), Jyoti (27), and infant Ahmad. While most of the injured were taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra (JPC) Hospital, the child was referred to GTB Hospital for further treatment.

Emergency teams, including personnel from the Delhi Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), civil defence, and seven fire tenders, have been deployed at the site. Locals have also actively participated in rescue operations.

Additional DCP North-East Sandeep Lamba said, “We received a call around 7:30 am. So far, seven members of a family have been rescued. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and we fear 3–4 more people could still be trapped. The building belonged to a person named Matloof. The structure opposite also suffered damage.”

Anees Ahmad Ansari, a local resident whose home was damaged in the collapse, recalled the terrifying moment: “Everyone was asleep when the building collapsed on one side of my house. Debris crashed in, causing a sudden blackout. At least 4–5 people were still trapped inside.”

The incident follows closely on the heels of another building collapse in the Pul Mithai area near Bara Hindu Rao just a day earlier, which resulted in one death and multiple injuries. That structure housed shops and godowns and was located in a busy commercial zone.

Authorities are continuing their rescue efforts and assessing the structural safety of surrounding buildings. Further updates are awaited.
