Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday confirmed that Mumbai received nearly 300 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, causing waterlogging and travel disruptions across the city. He said the Mithi River’s water level is receding gradually, while SDRF and NDRF teams have been deployed in affected areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Konkan and Ghat regions, along with an orange alert for other parts of the state for the next few hours.

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde visited flood-hit Naupada in Thane, where several homes were inundated. In Mumbai’s Kurla area, NDRF teams carried out relief and rescue operations at Kranti Nagar.

Meanwhile, train services between Vashi and Mumbai were halted for nearly an hour, leaving thousands of commuters stranded and triggering overcrowding on platforms. Frustrated passengers were seen voicing their anger as railway staff tried to manage the rush.

In view of the situation, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced a holiday for all government and semi-government offices, while advising private companies to allow employees to work from home. Essential and emergency services, however, remain operational.
