Police in Darbhanga have arrested a man accused of using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during an INDIA bloc rally in Bihar, officials confirmed on Friday.

The arrest follows the circulation of a video online that allegedly showed the accused making derogatory remarks at the political event. The incident has triggered a political storm in poll-bound Bihar, drawing sharp criticism from BJP leaders and Chief Ministers across states.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath condemned the remarks, calling them an “insult to 140 crore Indians” and demanded an apology from the Congress and RJD. “He (PM Modi) is the world’s most popular leader today. No civilised society can accept such undignified language,” he said.

Goa CM Pramod Sawant also criticised the INDIA bloc, terming the remarks an insult to the country’s women. “This shows the ideology of the INDIA bloc, which is alien to Indian democracy. Such words will not be forgiven even after a thousand apologies,” Sawant said.

Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav joined the criticism, writing on X that neither Bihar nor the nation would tolerate such statements. He too sought a public apology from Congress and RJD leaders.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Krishna Singh Kallu filed a complaint against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, demanding that the Voter Adhikar Yatra be stopped in Bihar.

Responding to the controversy, the Opposition INDIA bloc accused the BJP of deliberately raising “irrelevant issues” to divert attention from real concerns ahead of the Assembly polls.
