Two alleged miscreants involved in multiple cases of mobile and chain snatching were arrested following an encounter with the Kanpur Police near the Barra area on Monday night.
Providing details, DSP (South) Deependra Nath Choudhary said the arrests came after a hot chase and exchange of fire when the suspects attempted to flee from a routine police check.
“In recent days, several complaints of chain and mobile snatching were reported across South Zone. Based on input that the culprits were planning another incident, all station teams were directed to intensify patrol and checking,” Choudhary told ANI.
During one such patrol, police flagged down two men on a bike who refused to stop and opened fire, attempting to escape. Police pursued the suspects and returned fire in self-defence, eventually forcing them off the bike and arresting both.
In a separate incident in Prayagraj’s Kareli area, three miscreants were intercepted by police. One suspect was injured in an encounter and is undergoing treatment, while the other two were detained.
Earlier on July 3, Delhi double-murder accused Mukesh was arrested at Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Chandauli, in a joint operation by GRP, RPF, and local police.
Commenting on the recent law enforcement actions, BJP MP Dinesh Sharma lauded the state’s improved law and order situation under the Yogi Adityanath-led government.
“Uttar Pradesh has undergone a remarkable transformation. The era of lawlessness has ended. Today, the state stands among the best in terms of governance and public safety,” Sharma claimed.
With back-to-back crackdowns on criminal elements, police say they are committed to ensuring safety ahead of upcoming electoral and festive seasons.
