Heavy Rains Lash Delhi; IMD Warns of More Showers, Himachal on Orange Alert

Heavy rainfall drenched several parts of the national capital on Saturday, with areas such as Shastri Bhawan, R.K. Puram, Moti Bagh, and Kidwai Nagar witnessing intense showers. Light rain also caused waterlogging on Mathura Road, while Bharat Mandapam’s Gate No. 7 was inundated after early morning precipitation.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Saturday’s forecast predicts a “thunderstorm with rain,” with maximum and minimum temperatures expected at 33°C and 25°C, respectively.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued fresh warnings for Himachal Pradesh, forecasting heavy rain in several regions over the next few days. An Orange Alert has been issued for August 11 and 12 in three districts, with a Yellow Alert for the rest.

The ongoing monsoon has taken a severe toll in Himachal Pradesh. Since June 20, 202 people have died due to monsoon-related incidents—108 from rain, floods, and landslides, and 94 from road accidents, as per official data.

Rainfall in Himachal so far this August is 35% above normal, with districts like Solan, Kullu, Kinnaur, Bilaspur, and Una recording nearly double their average precipitation. Between June 1 and August 8, the state has received 13% more rainfall than the seasonal norm, with Shimla recording the highest levels, followed by Mandi, which is 65% above average. Chamba, Una, Bilaspur, and Kangra have also recorded 40% excess rainfall.

Despite the heavy showers, no major flood warnings have been issued so far, as rainfall remains light in many areas at present.
