An FIR has been registered against BJP MLC and former minister CT Ravi for allegedly making a provocative speech during a Ganpati immersion procession in Maddur, Mandya district, police officials confirmed on Thursday.
The suo motu case was filed by Maddur Police based on a complaint from Sub-Inspector Manjunath, who alleged that Ravi’s remarks targeted the Muslim community and were capable of inciting communal hatred.
According to the complaint, Ravi told the crowd: “When they are only 5 per cent, they are already showing their true colours. If they become 50 per cent, will our children even be able to survive? They will break society… We will break your shoulders, we will take your heads too. The Hindu community has the strength to bury stone-pelters inside the very stones they throw.”
The remarks came a day after stone pelting incidents during Ganesh idol immersion triggered tension in Maddur. Pro-Hindu groups protested, leading to police lathi-charge and the arrest of 21 people.
Meanwhile, political tensions have escalated. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar accused BJP leaders of “igniting fire” instead of working for development, urging them to focus on bringing NREGA funds and project approvals from Delhi. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also alleged that the RSS and BJP were disrupting peace in the state.
Heavy police deployment continues in Maddur under prohibitory orders, with shops shut and religious organisations holding meetings to discuss the situation.
The clashes reportedly broke out when the Ganpati procession passed near a mosque, despite police instructions to avoid a prolonged halt in the area.
