A building collapsed in the Mustafabad area of Delhi in the early hours of Saturday, with several individuals feared trapped under the debris, officials said.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Delhi Police quickly reached the scene, and a rescue operation is currently underway. Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of people trapped or injured. Further details are awaited as the situation unfolds.

The incident comes a day after Delhi experienced a sudden bout of heavy rain and thunderstorms on Friday night, which impacted several parts of the city.

In a similar weather-related mishap last week, a wall of a six-floor under-construction building collapsed during a dust storm near Madhu Vihar police station, resulting in one fatality and injuries to two others.

Additional DCP (East) Vineet Kumar said at the time, “Around 7 pm, we received a PCR call. On reaching the spot, we found that the wall had collapsed during the dust storm. One person died and two were injured and taken to the hospital.”

Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions and their impact on infrastructure as Delhi faces intermittent spells of rough weather.
