A suspected cylinder blast in the Wilson Garden area of Bengaluru claimed the life of a young boy and left nine others injured on Friday morning, according to officials. The explosion also caused significant structural damage to multiple houses in the vicinity.
The deceased has been identified as Mubarak. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, and other senior officials visited the site to assess the damage and oversee relief efforts.
“An explosion has occurred, and at first glance, it is suspected to be a cylinder blast,” CM Siddaramaiah said after inspecting the scene. “Several houses have collapsed. Nine people are injured and receiving treatment in hospitals. The government will cover all medical expenses, and ₹5 lakh compensation will be given to Mubarak’s family.” He added that Kasturamma, who sustained severe burns, is undergoing specialised treatment at Victoria Hospital.
Police Commissioner Singh stated that the blast occurred at around 8:30 am in Adugodi police limits. “Seven to eight houses have been fully damaged, with several others partially affected. Sadly, one child has died, and among the injured, one is in critical condition. Our teams – including the Bomb Detection Squad, Fire Department, SDRF, Forensic experts, and local police – are on-site, clearing debris to ensure no one remains trapped,” he said.
Officials confirmed that the government will repair the damaged houses. The exact cause of the blast remains under investigation, with forensic teams working to determine whether it was indeed triggered by a gas cylinder.
