Medical services at AIIMS Patna were severely disrupted on Thursday after resident doctors halted all elective procedures and warned of suspending emergency services, following an alleged assault by Sheohar MLA Chetan Anand, his wife Dr. Ayushi Singh, and their armed security personnel.

The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) announced the shutdown after the July 30 incident, in which the MLA and his entourage allegedly barged into the Trauma Centre around 11 pm, assaulted security staff, threatened doctors with death, and brandished firearms inside the hospital premises. A security guard was reportedly injured by a weapon’s butt.

In a strongly worded letter to the Medical Superintendent, the RDA accused the hospital administration of failing to take legal or disciplinary action, further heightening a “climate of fear and helplessness” among medical staff.

The RDA has issued a four-point demand list:

  1. Immediate FIR against MLA Chetan Anand, Dr. Ayushi Singh, and their guards.
  2. Permanent security deployment across the hospital.
  3. A formal condemnation and written assurance from the hospital administration.
  4. Implementation of long-term security measures for healthcare workers.

“We are committed to patient care, but we cannot and will not function under threats to our lives and dignity,” the RDA said, warning that the administration would bear full responsibility for any disruption in patient care if their demands are not met.

As of now, no FIR has been lodged, and the hospital administration has not issued a public statement on the incident. The situation remains tense, with emergency services set to be suspended if there is no official action by 9 am, August 1.
